DB12 Volante adds the elegance and engagement of open-top driving to a class-leading blend of ultra-luxury, power and sporting dynamics. Beneath its lowered K-fold roof sits a hand-assembled 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 producing 671 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque, delivering 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 202 mph. This is no softer alternative to the Coupe: dedicated structural reinforcement and bespoke damper tuning make the Volante a true driver’s car with the sky for a roof.

Where convention asks an open-top grand tourer to trade purpose for poise, DB12 Volante refuses the compromise. The bonded aluminium structure has been reinforced specifically for roofless duty, with lateral suspension mounting stiffness at the front axle increased by 140 per cent, while new-generation adaptive dampers offer five times the operating bandwidth of the previous system. The result is a car that answers to the driver with the same clarity roof up or roof down – 671 hp of hand-built V8 delivered through a rear mid-mounted ZF eight-speed automatic and an electronic limited-slip differential, all the way to 202 mph.
Design
DB12 Volante carries the taut, muscular proportions of the Coupe into open-top form without dilution. The wider grille, hunched rear haunches and clean flanks remain intact, while the folded roof disappears into a stack just 260 mm (10.2 in) tall – a class-leading figure achieved through a two-stage electric K-fold mechanism that preserves luggage space rather than consuming it.
The eight-layer fabric canopy is engineered for acoustic isolation as much as for weather protection, and is offered in Black, Red, Blue and Black/Silver. It opens in 14 seconds and closes in 16, and can be operated on the move at speeds of up to 31 mph (50 km/h), or remotely from the key within two metres of the car.
Interior
The cabin is built around a bespoke, in-house infotainment system driving a 10.25-inch Pure Black capacitive touchscreen, with online connectivity, 3D mapping and real-time traffic, what3words destination entry, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Physical controls for the functions a driver reaches for most are retained alongside it.
Because the interior is on show with the roof lowered, the seatbacks are finished in wood veneer or carbon fibre matched to the door trims. A Bowers & Wilkins 390W 11-speaker system is standard; a 1,170W, 15-speaker dual-amplified surround system is available for those who want the cabin to sing as loudly as the V8.
Performance
Removing a roof usually costs a chassis its composure. Here it has been engineered back in: targeted underbody and structural reinforcement, a 140 per cent increase in lateral suspension mounting stiffness at the front axle, revised rear spring rates unique to the Volante, and dedicated tuning for the intelligent adaptive DTX dampers with Skyhook technology.
Steering is direct and unfiltered through a non-isolated column with a constant 13.09:1 ratio, while 275/35 ZR21 front and 325/30 ZR21 rear Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 tyres – developed bespoke for this car – anchor the 671 hp to the road. Six-piston 400 mm front steel brakes are standard, with carbon ceramics available to remove 27 kg of unsprung mass.
